FAQs

Business analytics is a field that drives practical, data-driven changes in a business. It is a practical application of statistical analysis that focuses on providing actionable recommendations. Analysts in this field focus on how to apply the insights they derive from data. Their goal is to draw concrete conclusions about a business by answering specific questions about why things happened, what will happen and what should be done. Business analytics utilizes big data, statistical analysis, and data visualization to implement organization changes. Predictive analytics is an important aspect of this work as it involves available data to create statistical models. These models can be used to predict outcomes and inform decision making. By learning from existing data, business analytics can make concrete recommendations to solve problems and improve businesses. A course in Business Analytics teaches executives to address, explore and answer a number of questions regarding their businesses which help in making sound business decisions. It also brings in a lot of improvements in the way an organization operates.

Business Analytics is an ideal choice no matter which department or industry you choose for your professional growth. If you hold a business analytics degree you can get qualified for any of the below profiles:

  • Business Analyst: Responsibilities include Database management, building statistical models, Interpreting large datasets, and creating data visualizations.
  • Quantitative Analyst: Responsibilities include evaluating risks and generating profits through trading strategies.
  • Operations Research Analyst: Responsibilities include optimization, data mining, and statistical analysis.
  • Market Research Analyst: Responsibilities include understanding market trends, optimize revenue, measuring the success rate of marketing programs along identifying the company’s place in the market through competitive analysis.
Business Analytics does not require a knowledge or prior experience of coding. As a Business Analyst one has to understand the business requirements, develop, manage, and have an ability to do functional testing. None of the above responsibilities require programming skills.
Business Analytics has emerged as one of the most lucrative career options in terms of salary and growth. The appeal of Analytics career, however, is not just limited to high salary. The dynamic nature of the job where one gets to help businesses seek answer of challenging questions and problems has its own kick for many job seekers. Since analytics can be put to use in varied industries over a spectrum of roles, there exist a plethora of opportunities in sectors like Banking, Retail, Textile, Healthcare, Automotive, etc.

MBA programs focus more on business planning while the Business Analytics program focuses on deriving insights from the analysis of data. Business Analytics is technical in nature but for MBA courses you have the option of taking up any specialization like finance, Human resources, Marketing, Public Relations, and so on.

Whereas, a Certificate Programme in Leveraging Analytics for Business at Welingkar institute is designed in partnership with IBM which helps in transforming data into business insights for impactful data-driven business decision-making.
